Rob Heron & the Tea Pad Orchestra – Wednesday 22nd November

Rob Heron & the Tea Pad Orchestra – Wednesday 22nd November

Rob Heron & the Tea Pad Orchestra are one of the hardest working bands in the UK roots circuit.

With thousands of touring miles under their belts, they have earned themselves a sizeable fan base in the UK, Europe and beyond. Based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, they play their own brand of Western Swing, Blues, Gypsy Jazz and Country, or “North Eastern Swing” as they’ve coined it.

Their style is more eclectic than most, influenced by early 20th century American music, with the addition of “razor-sharp” solos, great arrangements and original songs; their music harks back to a golden age whilst staying perfectly modern. The songs are penned by Rob Heron, a crazy fool for country music and a full time dandy-cowboy. His songs are full of character, satire, and good old fashion hollerin’.

The band, a hot six-piece, features Ben Fitzgerald (guitar), Tom Cronin (mandolin), Colin Nicholson (accordion), Ted Harbot (double bass) and Paul Archibald (drums).

Their debut album, ‘Money Isn’t Everything’, caused a sensation when it was released in 2012, winning a host of rave reviews – many of them 5-star. Their second album, “Talk About The Weather” (released July 7th 2014) also gathered some notable radio play and reviews.

The best way to experience Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra is at a live show!

Press Quotes

“That’s one hot band right there!” – Huey Morgan, BBC Radio 2

“Rob Heron evokes the spirit of Bob Wills and Django Reinhardt with a quintet that shuffles and boogies with panache. Infectiously good-humoured” – Uncut Magazine

“Amazing musicians who play with both passion and a sympathetic regard for the history of the genre.” – Maverick Magazine

“On this, their second album of skewed Texas swing, gypsy jazz and hot, humorous country blues they’ve added reeds and horns for a big, thick sound, but their spontaneous combustion is always unstoppable. – Scotsman On Sunday

Dodgy – Friday 10th November

Dodgy – Friday 10th November

Dodgy started life 27 years ago. In that time they released 6 albums, countless singles, toured the World, criss-crossed the UK, as well as managing to take a well-earned break for 10 years. Now, back in action, Dodgy continue to release critically acclaimed music and perform live to thousands of people every year.

In October & November 2017 Dodgy shake out, away from the festival season, with Dodgy Acoustic. Nigel Clark, Andy Miller and Stu Thoy will perform in a series of intimate acoustic shows playing stripped back versions of Dodgy classics, delving into the Dodgy vaults and unearthing forgotten gems and and the most requested songs from recent critically acclaimed albums Stand Upright In A Cool Place and the current album What Are We Fighting For. Delivering songs with stories of life on the road – stories from one of the UK’s most active touring bands.

Dodgy frontman Nigel Clark says of playing these intimate shows – “Dodgy have always loved acoustic shows, the songs are written and rehearsed in acoustic format but they rock and we are loud – this is a chance to hear the songs in their Melodic, Harmonious Glory!”

The Vryll Society – Summer Residency

The Vryll Society – Summer Residency

Vryll Society Residency

EVOL presents THE VRYLL SOCIETY summer residency at The Magnet.

Liverpool promoters EVOL have teamed up with Deltasonic Records and the group leading the current and future musical charge The Vryll Society to produce a summer residency at The Magnet consisting of three headline shows starring The Vryll Society with support from the very best up and coming groups from the Liverpool scene each night.

Following the release of the The Vryll Society’s second single “Sacred Flight”, an impressive UK tour and festival schedule the band have returned home to finish the recording of their hotly anticipated debut long player which will be released later this year. Whilst in and out of the studio one of Liverpool’s favourite grass roots venues The Magnet has been chosen as their testing ground so they can continue to hone their art whilst having a base to experiment and explore for things to come.

The line ups for each show have been carefully curated by The Vryll Society themselves who want to support the scene that birthed them and includes fellow Deltasonic label mates Psycho Comedy, the legendary and usually late night Strange Collective, the mighty Sugarmen who travelled to SXSW with The Vryll Society earlier this year and upped their game smashing a pile of Texas shows.

Skeleton Key Records have kindly agreed to introduce two of their new secret weapons having early shows at the residency with Peach Fuzz and The Mysterines both being shrouded in mystery with all to be revealed onstage but the word is from the Skelly camp is that both are going to be big news.

Liverpool stalwarts BRIBES, The Floormen, Wild Fruit Art Collective and Samurai Kip join the affray all new groups with huge potential who are currently developing their skills in the underbelly of Liverpool’s nightlife club scene.
