Rob Heron & the Tea Pad Orchestra – Wednesday 22nd November

Rob Heron & the Tea Pad Orchestra – Wednesday 22nd November

RH

Rob Heron & the Tea Pad Orchestra are one of the hardest working bands in the UK roots circuit.

With thousands of touring miles under their belts, they have earned themselves a sizeable fan base in the UK, Europe and beyond. Based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, they play their own brand of Western Swing, Blues, Gypsy Jazz and Country, or “North Eastern Swing” as they’ve coined it.

Their style is more eclectic than most, influenced by early 20th century American music, with the addition of “razor-sharp” solos, great arrangements and original songs; their music harks back to a golden age whilst staying perfectly modern. The songs are penned by Rob Heron, a crazy fool for country music and a full time dandy-cowboy. His songs are full of character, satire, and good old fashion hollerin’.

The band, a hot six-piece, features Ben Fitzgerald (guitar), Tom Cronin (mandolin), Colin Nicholson (accordion), Ted Harbot (double bass) and Paul Archibald (drums).

Their debut album, ‘Money Isn’t Everything’, caused a sensation when it was released in 2012, winning a host of rave reviews – many of them 5-star. Their second album, “Talk About The Weather” (released July 7th 2014) also gathered some notable radio play and reviews.

The best way to experience Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra is at a live show!

“Amazing musicians who play with both passion and a sympathetic regard for the history of the genre.” – Maverick Magazine

“On this, their second album of skewed Texas swing, gypsy jazz and hot, humorous country blues they’ve added reeds and horns for a big, thick sound, but their spontaneous combustion is always unstoppable. – Scotsman On Sunday

Dodgy – Friday 10th November

Dodgy – Friday 10th November

Dodgy

Dodgy started life 27 years ago. In that time they released 6 albums, countless singles, toured the World, criss-crossed the UK, as well as managing to take a well-earned break for 10 years. Now, back in action, Dodgy continue to release critically acclaimed music and perform live to thousands of people every year.

In October & November 2017 Dodgy shake out, away from the festival season, with Dodgy Acoustic. Nigel Clark, Andy Miller and Stu Thoy will perform in a series of intimate acoustic shows playing stripped back versions of Dodgy classics, delving into the Dodgy vaults and unearthing forgotten gems and and the most requested songs from recent critically acclaimed albums Stand Upright In A Cool Place and the current album What Are We Fighting For. Delivering songs with stories of life on the road – stories from one of the UK’s most active touring bands.

Dodgy frontman Nigel Clark says of playing these intimate shows – “Dodgy have always loved acoustic shows, the songs are written and rehearsed in acoustic format but they rock and we are loud – this is a chance to hear the songs in their Melodic, Harmonious Glory!”

“The best garage band in America since the ’60s. Very primitive…they made people with Les Pauls and Marshall amps look like idiots.” – Jack White

The Gories began in the cultural vacuum of Detroit in 1986. With humble beginnings at a community concert series through a tumultuous end on their 1992 European tour, this is a band whose influence has far outstretched the ground they covered. Rooted in the primal, primitive underpinnings of 50’s rhythm and blues and unhinged 60s garage punk, the sound they came to was wholly their own. While band members Mick Collins and Dan Kroha would go on to wider recognition in the Dirtbombs and Demolition Dolls Rods respectively, the Gories should be viewed in the same influential context as the Velvet Underground and the Cramps. While they may have barely sold any records, the folks that saw and heard these bands were inspired to create. It’s high time the Gories get their due.
